Are the Pajama Angels a Registered Charity?

As of February 17th, 2012 we were incorporated as not-for-profit charity in the Province of Ontario. #1866938. As of yet, we are not registered with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) but have applied (many times) and hope to be a registered charity in the future.

Click here to read about the difference between a Not For Profit & a Charity

Regarding Tax Receipts ~ Please Read Below:

Pajama Angels are a not-for-profit (N-F-P) charity at the provincial level #1866938
We are not a Registered charity with CRA at the federal level.
We can issue a donation receipt but it is not a tax deductible charitable receipt.
Incorporated businesses may find it possible to claim a donation as “business promotion”.  Check with your accountant.

Reason:
The regulatory agency Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) that regulates and defines charitable organizations, does not see Complementary/Alternative therapies as having a “public benefit’.  To be considered charitable, you must serve a “public benefit”.  CRA feels we do not qualify as a charity under their guidelines.

According CRA, the Examples under the four categories of charity generally include:

  • relief of poverty (food banks, soup kitchens, low-cost housing units)
  • advancement of education (colleges, universities, research institutes)
  • advancement of religion (places of worship, missionary organizations)
  • purposes beneficial to the community (animal shelters, libraries, volunteer fire departments)

We feel that our mission and work has a huge public benefit and we can easily continue to accomplish this by maintaining our not-for-profit incorporated level.

Our NFP charity is based on the premise (through published researched- see our resources page) that alternative/complementary therapies & the integration of them into mainstream conventional medicine does indeed support a public benefit.

Non-profit organizations

A non-profit organization (NPO) is a club, society, or association that’s organized and operated solely for…

  • social welfare
  • civic improvement
  • pleasure or recreation
  • any other purpose except profit.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us:

Until such time as we are seen by CRA as having a “public benefit”, we will continue to be as transparent as possible in our fundraising efforts by posting all earnings and donations on this page.

You have our word that every penny raised stays local in Windsor-Essex County!
Thus far our charity runs strictly on good will of generous donors and sponsors and incredible volunteers!
